Wax

WAX (wax) in the plastic industry is a solid organic compound, usually derived from petroleum (paraffin wax, PE wax), plants (carnauba wax) or synthetic (Fischer-Tropsch wax). WAX is insoluble in water, has a relatively low melting point and has the effect of lubricating, dispersing, anti-sticking, and controlling flow during plastic processing.

Applications

PE Wax (Polyethylene Wax) Cheap, external lubrication, increases PVC gloss, masterbatch, extrusion PP Wax (Polypropylene Wax) Good lubrication, improves the surface of PP, TPO, TPE plastics Paraffin Wax Cheap, soft, easy to process soft PVC, roofing sheets FT Wax (Fischer-Tropsch) Synthetic wax, high melting point, high purity Masterbatch Oxidized PE Wax Has functional groups, slightly polar, good dispersion Mixed with fillers or pigments Amide Wax (EBS, OBS) Good anti-sticking, improves flow Compound, paint, masterbatch Carnauba Wax Natural, non-toxic, high gloss Food packaging, cosmetics

Properties

Form Granule, powder, flake or liquid Color White, light yellow, opaque Melting temperature 80 – 160°C (depending on type) Polarity Non-polar (PE Wax, Paraffin), slightly polar (Amide wax) Good thermal stability, durable in extrusion and injection molding High slipperiness – reduces friction, easy to demould Compatibility Depends on resin and wax type
