Oil

Oils in the plastics industry are viscous liquids used as plasticizers, processing agents, or process improvers. Depending on the type of oil, the function can be different: softening plastic, improving flow, reducing friction, or increasing weather resistance.

Applications

Paraffinic Oil Mineral-based, odorless, light color, low viscosity Rubber, TPE, TPR, soft plastic Naphthenic Oil Mineral-based, medium viscosity, higher compatibility Rubber, TPE, EPDM Aromatic Oil Mineral-based, aromatic ring, high viscosity, low price SBR, NR rubber (often less used due to toxicity) White Oil Highly refined, medical or food grade Toys, medical supplies, cosmetics Bio-based Oil Vegetable-based such as soybean oil, castor oil PVC, environmentally friendly TPE Process Oil Special mixed oil in rubber and TPE/TPR industry Soft plastic beads, elastic compound

Properties

Liquid, viscous, not evaporating quickly Color Clear, light yellow or brown (depending on type) Specific gravity ~0.85 – 1.00 g/cm³ Viscosity Wide (20 – 400 cSt at 40°C) Flash point >150°C Compatibility Depends on type, must be compatible with polymer matrix Thermal stability Stable under plastic processing conditions
